El Callao is one of the biggest festivals in Venezuelan culture, as UNESCO states, “The carnival highlights Callaoense history and diversity honouring its Afro-Antillean links and other community influences, reinforces its cultural identity, promotes unity and encourages younger generations to discover their heritage”(Mallett). Recently, in Puebla Mexico The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) states that El Callao would be listen on it's List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The importance of this listing lies in the pride of venezuelans. This is a reassurance of El Callao's significance. Many venezuelans are very proud to have El Callao on the list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
My Thoughts: I feel good for Venezuela because it is an honor and reminds them that El Callao is important. One day I would like to visit Venezuela during EL Callao to experience the amazing Venezuelan culture. The List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity is a list of cultural events that people believe will last for a long time even through globalization, when going to El Callao it must be likes stepping into a new world.
This is important to Venezuelan culture because El Callao is a big part of the culture. A lot of work by venezuelans goes into putting on El Callao and getting recognition pleases them.
