Summary: While Burkina Faso may seem “off the grid” when it comes to mainstream politics, they are a main victim to what we see in the news everyday. Terrorism affect all of us, we all think we could be a victim to a spontaneous attack. But as we learn in AP Human Geography, terrorist attacks are targeting ordinary citizens with no significance. This makes sub-saharan africa a main target in terrorism today. Recently there have been meetings within the UN about protecting these targets; specifically west africa including Burkina Faso. So although they ay seem out of touch they are by no means worry free. Plus, counting for the local terrorist groups that rebel against the strictly "conservative" african culture.
My Opinion: I like the fact that they are thinking ahead in the UN. It is the main component of the UN to keep peace within its countries and to help clean up the mess. However, looking out for these smaller countries rather than just caring about how to attack an end these terrorist groups is what keeps us safe today.
How this affects Burkina Faso’s Politics: As I said in the summary- while they may not have the same worries as us, Burkina Faso and it’s neighbors have been made a target for a reason that is not their fault. This is the reason why small countries in sub- saharan africa and central-latin america join these superpowers, to be looked out for.
